A recent storm of reactions in the community was caused by a scandal between the owners and active members of the VastRP, UmbrellaRP and MagicRP servers and a schoolboy nicknamed KABANCHIK. According to Podslushano Garry’s Mod, on the nineteenth of January an incident occurred involving an offer of a project staff privilege in exchange for a naked dance by the aforementioned player. He agreed.
The dance was streamed on the Magic RP Discord server in a public voice channel. During the dance or after it ended, the player was given the project staff privilege, which was immediately taken away, after which he received a permanent ban for being added to the project’s blacklist.
Blogger Afrodetka, who was present during the stream, refuted all the information published by Podslushano Garry’s Mod through a repeat interview with the player. The earlier interview had been conducted by Persona Non Grata Urbanichka. In the second interview, the player stated that the Non Grata had forced him, under threat of harassment, to say that he had danced on camera. In the end, KABANCHIK stated that the whole story about him was false and that he had been banned because public pages had spread this, in his words, false story.
Some of the users who appeared in a screenshot taken during the stream were checked, and it turned out that one of those present confirmed that the incident had taken place. What is strange is that his account was not banned, since any discussion of this was usually punished with a ban.
Urbanichka also claimed that the boy’s parents had filed a police report, but this bold claim was not supported by facts. Podslushano Garry’s Mod urged its readers to file a report with the hotline of the Safe Internet League. On the seventeenth of February, Umbrella RP, Vast RP and Magic RP were blocked in the server browser. Magic RP #3 remained in the server browser, for how long is unknown.
This story caused a similar, though smaller, wave of criticism of the game to the one Garry’s Mod once received over Jameskii’s video. The outcome could have been, and may still be, much worse. Previously, because of scandals involving children, Garry’s Mod introduced the Server Operator Rules and banned sexual content, a situation that Alium followed while expecting dirty tricks.
The more high-profile news comes from a public multiplayer game, the more it may backfire in the future with additional restrictions and rules in Garry’s Mod. So far, Rubat’s reaction has been to block the servers of the organizers of this event. No outside reaction has been observed.
