Discussions about issues with the beta branch updates date back to February 19. However, most of the error reports regarding the updates emerged between the 20th and 23rd. Garry’s Mod players began encountering errors, the primary one being a menu loading error: “Menu failed to load.” Many users took to Reddit and the official Garry’s Mod Discord server to share this problem, seeking solutions.
This latest “minor” update has broken Garry’s Mod even more severely than the global updates, which occur less frequently. As usual, the update yielded its share of issues, both isolated and significantly larger problems affecting a large group of players. The peak of community frustration occurred between February 20 and 22, when updates were released almost daily to fix various errors. Add-ons and player models once again suffered as a result.
Some players began receiving notifications about the presence of viruses within the game, with some cases escalating to warnings from the Steam platform. Among the widespread errors was the aforementioned menu loading issue, which rendered it impossible to play Garry’s Mod at all, as well as a memory shortage error affecting some players, leading to immediate game crashes. Rubat once again had to contend with a series of blunders that inconveniently spawned new problems.
Most of the errors were observed in the Dev branch, Pre-release, and Chromium versions, which at the very least indicates a need to update the version, and at most suggests a forced return to the original version for a more or less comfortable gaming experience.
Once again, the entire community thanks the sole developer of Garry’s Mod for the update and hopes he can avoid the mistakes he made previously. It is worth noting that Rubat has taken care of the players by updating the HTML error message for the menu loading issue: “Display a nicer message when the HTML main menu fails to load.”
