On March eleventh, Prostir Sandbox was closed. It was a server that was founded in 2022 by active Ukrainian members of the Garry’s Mod community and members of the Alium community, throwing off the shackles of the unnecessary legacy of Russian-speaking communities. For two years, this server provided a large number of players with a place where they could have a relatively good time in the game’s original game mode.
Prostir Sandbox! was one of the most popular Ukrainian projects in the Garry’s Mod server browser, and many players from Ukraine remember it as something unifying, as a buffer between different groups of users. Later, in 2023, the server created a “Ukrainian Garry’s Mod” group.
They tried to reorganize the server under the brand name “Prostir 2.0” before the online downfall, but three months later it was returned to the original version due to complaints from regular players. The server was unable to avoid discontent until its closure.
According to Swanchick, the server was closed due to a number of problems. The main problem was the decline in activity on the server, which eventually reached a stable online of less than ten people. Moreover, the entire original team that worked on the server in 2022 had long since lost interest in development, and the new team did not meet expectations. The third problem was the desire to save money and not pay for server maintenance.
Despite the closure of the server, there is a certain probability that the development team will return later to develop something else. The non-existent server will remain a great example of a tumultuous start and an equally tumultuous existence, which, unfortunately, did not yield long-term results and was limited to two years.
