On June 3, four years after its first public release on other platforms, the game mode Temporal Assassin, created by developer Magenta from the Digitally Occult team, was released in the Steam Workshop.
Temporal Assassin has been in long development, by the standards of game modes in Garry’s Mod, starting in 2018, and developer Magenta has yet to complete it even to version 0.5. This is due to the high quality of the game mode and the large amount of content within it. There are many reasons why the game mode did not appear in the Steam Workshop earlier, ranging from personal issues to various restrictions that Magenta did not want to adapt Temporal Assassin to. To avoid these issues, the content of the mode was divided into several parts.
A distinctive feature of Temporal Assassin is its focus on single-player gameplay; it does not support any forms of multiplayer or co-op. The game mode allows players to traverse maps from Half-Life, Half-Life 2, its episodes, and numerous custom campaigns from various modifications. It features a vast array of diverse weapons, different costumes, a multitude of enemies, multifunctional movement, a hub in the form of the main character’s apartment, and its own lore with a storyline that develops alongside the gameplay.
Due to the fact that the Steam Workshop does not allow .dll files, many features have been lost: there is no custom cursor, session information will no longer be displayed in the friends list overlay, and custom music will need to be modified for it to work correctly. Overall, the release of Temporal Assassin in the workshop does not bring any changes to the gameplay; however, its publication will help raise awareness and possibly attract extra hands to assist in a full release.
